Search activity grew from December to January: ComScore

January saw a “significant jump” in search activity compared to December, according to ComScore, a third party data source that releases monthly reports ranking the five major US search engines.

According to the report, Americans conducted 10.5 billion core searches, an 8.9% increase from the previous month. Each of the search engines included in the report saw search activity grow by at least 5%, according to ComScore.

In January, Google’s share of core searches continued to grow “marginally” from 58.4 to 58.5%, while Yahoo searches dropped slightly from 22.9% to 22.2%, according to the report. Microsoft site searches held firm at 9.8% while AOL grew from 4.6% to 4.9% and the Ask Network went from 4.3% to 4.5 %.
