AOL, Google expand search partnership to mobile, YouTube

Google and AOL said September 2 that they have renewed their search partnership for five more years and expanded it to include mobile search and YouTube.

The companies said in a statement that Google will provide AOL with enhancements to its search products, as well as ad formats. AOL’s video content also will begin to appear on YouTube as a result of the deal.

Eric Schmidt, chairman and CEO of Google, said in a statement that video and mobile “are now at the heart of users’ online experiences and at the core of both our businesses.” His counterpart at AOL, Tim Armstrong, said in a statement that “all aspects of our partnership will be improved by this deal.”

Google currently provides AOL with search services for its content network and properties, in exchange for a revenue-sharing agreement, in a deal in place since 2002.
