Naomi Hirabayashi is the cofounder of Shine, the daily messaging experience to help you be your best self.
Before cofounding Shine, Hirabayashi was part of the senior management team that helped grow DoSomething.org’s membership from 150,000 to more than 5 million. She also led the creation of the DoSomething.org marketing team that handles all earned, donated, and owned media strategy and outreach for more than 20 cause campaigns a year.
What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?
Taking the leap to go full-time on Shine.
What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40 Under 40 honorees?
If you’re ever in doubt, channel Mindy Kaling. Ask, “Why not me?” for whatever you’re gunning for: a bigger job title, taking a risk, or trying out something new.
What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?
Make Shine as big and impactful as we know it can be—reaching millions of people worldwide, through messaging, to help them feel their best self to reach work and life goals.
What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?
I went to four colleges in five years.
