T-Mobile, RIM Sending BlackBerry to Europe

T-Mobile and Research In Motion Limited will work together to market Research In Motion's BlackBerry wireless solution to businesses in Europe via T-Mobile's distribution channels.

This venture builds on a partnership announced late last year between RIM and VoiceStream — a member of the T-Mobile international group — for the United States and will let T-Mobile offer corporate customers a trans-Atlantic BlackBerry service.

The two companies said the partnership involves the marketing of the BlackBerry solution and the development of Java-based corporate wireless data applications to run on BlackBerry and that can operate over T-Mobile's General Packet Radio Service networks. T-Mobile, Toronto, intends to market the BlackBerry solution in Germany and the wider European market.

The BlackBerry wireless e-mail solution provides business users with an “always on” secure link to their corporate e-mail. RIM's push technology ensures that e-mail is forwarded to the user's BlackBerry wireless handheld device wherever he is. There is no need to dial in to retrieve e-mails.

BlackBerry is expected to be available in Germany through T-Mobile this summer.

RIM, Waterloo, Ontario, is a manufacturer and marketer of wireless solutions for the mobile communications market.
