Several complaints to lodge against Völkl’s ski gear site

Social sharing is front and center on Völkl.com with a Twitter widget updated in real time on the ski equipment seller’s home page and a Facebook Feed, as well. Also prominent on the home page is a video, which kind of feels like a low-rent commercial, featuring brief testimonials from well-known skiers and brand evangelists — referred to as “Völkl zealots” — extolling the virtues of Völkl.

The social plug-ins plus that video account for about 75% of the home page’s real estate. The product listings — everything from skis and ski poles, to backpacks, hats, gloves, performance wear and other apparel — are arranged and organized well.

The skis, especially, are given nice treatment. Mini product descriptions appear when mousing over the products. In addition to the usual “buy it now” option, there’s a neat little “compare ski to ski” button that allows visitors to select two products from drop-down menus and view them side-by-side.

The simple to use “dealer search” displays stores in order of proximity from closest to farthest. A blog-like “Jöurnal” tab, which appears in the number two spot in the main navigation bar hasn’t been updated since October 2011. A definite waste of space.

Other than English, language options include German, Italian, Spanish and French.
