ReturnPath Service Handles E-Mail Address Changes

ReturnPath Inc., Evergreen, CO, went live this week with a service that enables marketers to keep their e-mail address databases up to date and helps to eliminate “dead” addresses.

The service, available at www.returnpath.net, uses a contributed database. Marketers contribute their databases of e-mail names, and ReturnPath sends notification to consumers on the list that they can review their data. The company enables consumers to review which e-mail addresses are on marketers' files and allows them to update their data.

The company said DatabaseONE, New York, a provider of proprietary business and consumer content, is the latest company to sign up and is offering the change-of-address service to its InfoConnect service clients.

“Companies that depend on e-mail for customer retention need a solution to e-mail churn or risk losing 25 percent of their customer e-mail database every year,” Michael Morreale, president of DatabaseONE, said in a statement.

ReturnPath said 22 companies are enrolled in its network. DoubleClick Inc. is a minority investor in the company.
