Printplace.com Offers Print Vendors E-Business, News

NEW YORK — E-business service provider ImageX.com has launched a Web site, www.printplace.com, that will unite the company's various offering of print industry resources and tools, according to an announcement made here at this week's Internet and Electronic Conference and Exposition.

The Bellevue, WA-based firm has four other sites that broker deals between print buyers and sellers, but looks to extend its market reach with the new site by offering those services plus editorial content and industry information. President/CEO Rich Begert said the firm is seeking more content providers.

“Frankly, we have a lot more commerce than content right now,” he said. To join the site as an industry news or information provider “you have to have deep content — nothing superficial or redundant to what we already have.”

Before this launch, ImageX.com has primarily leveraged its 4,100 registered printers, which Begert said lowered prices for firms looking for print work. He said his company offers print vendors and buyers the financial benefits of no sales commission and an order error rate of less than 0.5 percent last year.

“I could argue that the work I send a vendor is more profitable than the work he can get himself,” Begert said.
