Google Earth adds business info to desktop and iPhone apps

In a post yesterday on Google “Lat and Long” blog, which is run by the company’s Google Earth and Maps team, Carmen Erni announced that the company has launched a “businesses layer” to Google Earth that will allow users to see businesses and related information when the application is launched on the desktop or the iPhone, including restaurants, banks and gas stations.

When you click on a business icon, details including name, address and phone number are provided – as well as customer reviews. The closer you zoom in on Google Earth, the more businesses become visible.

Google could not be reached for comment on this latest addition to Google Earth.
