Also they have a proven track record of marketing excellence and leadership, whether they’re in roles supporting global brands, or leading their own thriving start-ups. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know our winners, and what they’ve accomplished. 

Jessica Best is the Director of Data-Driven Marketing at Barkley, an integrated marketing and advertising agency based out of Kansas City.

What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?

Teaching data-driven marketing at Harbour.Space University in Barcelona. I also had a client thank me after a project for “saving their business,” which has been the highest praise I’ve received to date!

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40Under40 honorees?

Speak at conferences! It challenges you to stay fresh on your field and learn how to express your expertise, not just use it day-to-day. (This is extremely useful in your career, client presentations, new business, etc.). It also means you’ll never run dry on inspiration and education — be sure you build in time to stay and learn from fellow speakers.


What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

I’d love to pull together my own book/textbook. I wish more students and entry-level marketers got a solid education in database/direct/email marketing!

What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?

I’m actually a Mensa member, but you don’t want me on your trivia team unless it’s a Harry Potter-themed trivia! (I’m reigning champion of Harry Potter trivia in KC. True story.)
