Our look at the most — and least engaging social media
The celebrity-studded “Aid Still Required” online outreach campaign partnered with Internet giving social platform Snoball.com to raise online funds for the ongoing disaster
recovery effort in Haiti. More than 40 high-profile celebrities, including Maroon 5, Martha Stewart, Alicia Keys, Sting, Spike Lee and Olivia Wilde, joined the viral campaign on the second anniversary of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Port-Au-Prince and informed their 155 million Facebook fans and Twitter followers of the continuing need to rebuild.
Proceeds will help support deforestation projects, schools, orphanages and trauma relief programs developed by Aid Still Required (ASR), a nonprofit organization focused on creating solutions and improving the lives of people left behind by a natural disaster. When someone “likes” Aid Still Required on Facebook, 25 cents goes to the organization. In spite of the celebrities and the importance of the cause, the campaign had only 2,100 “likes” in early February.
