AOL, WorldCom Forge Alliance

Local and long distance phone provider WorldCom Inc. said yesterday it agreed to a multi-year alliance with America Online, Dulles, VA., to market AOL’s Internet service to its telecommunications customers.

WorldCom, Clinton, MS, will offer up to an hour of free phone time if customers join AOL.

WorldCom customers who subscribe to MCI 5 Cents Everyday plans and join AOL will receive an hour of free phone time as long as they remain an MCI Worldcom long-distance customer. They will also receive 500 free hours of AOL in their first month of use and unlimited access for $21.95 a month after that. In addition, they will receive $200 in member savings at the AOL Online store.

Under the deal, WorldCom will offer its employees special pricing on a number of personal computers, as well as offer them AOL service as their preferred provider.
