BMG Plans to Sell Digital Music Online

BMG Entertainment, New York, said yesterday it will begin providing online downloadable digital music this summer through multiple arrangements with retail partners.

The company said it had made an alliance with Digital World Services and Reciprocal for digital rights management services and had selected Liquid Audio to develop an open distribution infrastructure.

BMG plans to offer music for sale online through online retailers using IBM, Intertrust and Microsoft technology platforms.

BMG will launch the new service this summer with current hits and a sizable catalog, the company said. BMG hopes to have a significant amount of music available for sale by the holiday season.
