Pope 2.0

Pope Benedict XVI has launched a YouTube channel.

The Bloomberg article quotes a spokesman as saying that the move is a “real and tangible example of the Church’s commitment in the field of new technologies, to reach out to a global audience without regard for nationality or culture.”

Marketers will see this as a Pope-ish take on the reality that engagement is evolving continually and that the best place to reach prospects is where they are, which is more often online.

The Pope also made some recent remarks on Facebook and other social networking sites. The AP says that he warns that social networking can become “obsessive” and isolate people from each other.
