Y2K Drains Warehouse Plans

The Meta Group, Stamford, CT, a research and analyst consulting group, recently said that 51 percent of data warehouse projects are going to be affected by the Y2K resource drain. That number is up from 34 percent, which was reported last year.

Meta conducted research from a sample of 220 data-warehouse projects reported by 650 attendees at the recent Data Warehouse World conference and found that 17 percent of data-warehouse projects are being affected by Y2K.

Conference research also found that 24 percent of the companies are seeing a reduction in data-warehouse staffing as a result of the YK2 reassignment, 15 percent have seen reduced capital budgets for data-warehouse hardware and software, 15 percent have had their budget dollars redirected to Y2K efforts and 8 percent have changed corporate emphasis from enterprise data-warehouse projects to data marts.
