USPS, NALC Form Panel on Transformation Plan

The U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers formed a joint task force to study the postal service's transformation plan.

The NALC represents all city letter carriers employed by the USPS. The membership of the task force is still being created, and the first meeting is expected to take place late this month.

Meanwhile, the new Mailing Industry CEO Council, an outgrowth of the Mailing Industry Task Force established in July, announced its support this week for a presidential commission on postal reform.

“If we are going to have a viable and competitive mailing system in the 21st century, we cannot afford to wait any longer for the serious reforms that will be necessary,” said Pitney Bowes chairman/CEO Michael J. Critelli, president of the CEO Council. “It is increasingly clear that we need a presidential postal commission to kick-start the legislative process, and we strongly urge the administration to consider this idea.”
