Sweepstakes To Increase Travel Site’s Membership

Travel Web site Away.com, Washington, DC, yesterday announced a sweepstakes that will give away vacation trips and outdoor gear to increase the membership of its site that generally is made up of an affluent, educated audience who shop online.

To join the contest, viewers must become Away.com members by clicking a banner ad, and then supplying their full names and e-mail addresses. The grand prize of five free trips for two to more than 4,500 possible international destinations will be announced in late April. Three other sweepstakes winners will get a free trip for two with the same destination options. In addition, visitors to the site can enter to win daily giveaways of outdoor apparel that include wristwatches and fleece pullovers. In all, Away.com will award more than $100,000 in prizes.

Spokeswoman Julie Klyce said that 40 percent of Away.com’s current members receive and open one of its three e-mail newsletters. She said that 80 percent of the members shop online, while more than half of them have college degrees and make more than $60,000 a year.
