Smith Leaves Privacy Foundation

In a reflection of national concerns, privacy watchdog Richard M. Smith last month announced his departure from the Privacy Foundation and opened a consulting company to concentrate on security issues.

Smith, who has been vocal about Internet tracking and information collection during his time as the Privacy Foundation's chief technology officer, will now focus on Internet security and biometrics technology in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

He already started working with the American Civil Liberties Union to test face-scanning technologies for use at airports.

Smith can be reached through his Web site, www.ComputerBytesMan.com, where he will also publish his research.
