RR Donnelley to Shut Down South Daytona Plant

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. is closing its South Daytona, FL plant and is considering shutting down its print facility in Des Moines, IA.

The Chicago-based printing company said the South Daytona plant will close by the end of the second quarter.

Some of the plant’s 198 employees will be offered jobs elsewhere within the company, said Vera Panchak, director of corporate communication. She said RR Donnelley plans to help the others find jobs within the local community.

The company is expected to announce the fate of the Des Moines plant before the end of April.

RR Donnelley, a company specializing in magazine and catalog print jobs, also revealed that it would spend $300 million during the next two years to improve the efficiency of its other plants. The print production firm will retire several older presses and replace them with 10 new presses and related binding equipment in the reinvestment plan.

In another measure to upgrade its business, the company will begin enhanced productivity training to all company supervisors and strategic suppliers.
