Readers Respond to Tragedy

Editor's note: The following letters are in response to Ken Magill's online editorial, which appeared at www.imarketingnews.com on Sept. 12.

Your account was the most personal, “real” description of what went on in New York Sept. 11 that I have read. It seems to capture the moments even more than the televised pictures we saw here in Los Angeles. I appreciate your sharing those candid words. Definitely the right way to “handle” this situation.

Our World is Forever Changed

God, Ken, we were all glued to the television here in Nashville, TN, but your article brought this horrific disaster completely to life for me.

I'm sitting here crying my eyes out reading your very personal, painful account of what you saw. Your life, and ours, will never be the same, ever again. I just turned 40 on Sunday thinking that so many positive things are happening — my husband and I run our list company together, we have three beautiful children — but this, this unbelievable catastrophe has happened, and our world is forever changed. Thank you for writing this account. I'm printing it out and saving it to read to my grandchildren.

My prayers are with you, and I hope you find the strength to continue writing such powerful stuff.

Life Goes On

I just finished reading your story. First of all, I'm glad you're OK, and I'm sorry you now have to live with the scars of what has happened.

Being on the West Coast, I woke up as the events were unfolding. I felt so guilty shaving and brushing my teeth, knowing that just hours before many New Yorkers were innocently doing the same thing … for the last time. I grabbed some Taco Bell for lunch but had a tough time swallowing the food. Returning home in the evening I kissed my wife and my 1-year-old and felt sadly fortunate.

Today, although finding it tremendously difficult, I will continue my job in helping direct marketers sell their merchandise online with my company's e-commerce software. Our souls are hurting but our hearts beat strong.
