Melodies Conservation Project

AKQA, an international design firm, and the UN Live museum have embarked on a unique project, ‘Natural Melodies’, to generate funds for environmental conservation. This project combines sounds from different global ecosystems into a harmonious blend. The resulting revenue would support worldwide biodiversity protection efforts. Thus, underscoring the need to protect our planet’s biodiversity and attest to the synergy between design, music, and global causes.

A Spotify artist, “Nature,” was coined from this project and managed to gain over 1.7 million monthly listeners. It is intriguing to note that prominent artists like David Bowie, Brian Eno, Ellie Goulding, and Aurora, also use such natural soundscapes in their music compositions.

The project’s aim is to redefine our relationship with nature and shine a spotlight on its contributions to creativity.

Merging music and biodiversity conservation

A portion of the proceeds, including royalties and donations, would fund the project through EarthPercent, a charity based in the UK and the US. This creative initiative thus blends artistry with environmental activism, reinforcing the urgent need for conservation.

AKQA crafted a unique visual identity for the project, highlighting global ecosystem diversity and the need for conservation. The design showcases the danger faced by endangered wildlife like frogs, bees, and various fish species, due to pollution and climate change.

The design incorporates animated elements and motifs inspired by nature. This dynamic scene engages viewers, with a balanced mix of abstract patterns and recognizable shapes representing leaves, waves, and coral reef species. The chosen color palette underlines the symbolic importance of nature and the need for its conservation.

Nicolai Smith, AKQA’s executive director, expressed his support for the project, believing in its potential to inspire conservation efforts through music. This project aims to engage global audiences in preserving nature for future generations.
