MSC Industrial Direct Co. Inc. — a distributor of maintenance, repair and operations supplies for industrial customers — has launched MSCdirect.com.
MSCdirect offers customers full access to MSC's catalog of more than 450,000 SKUs. Available products are expected to increase at a rate of 40,000 SKUs each year. Orders placed via MSCdirect will move directly from the customer's desktop to the floor of the distribution center.
MSC Industrial Direct, Melville, NY, also launched a marketing effort that will include direct mail, telemarketing and a customer-training program.
For the 2000 fiscal year, the company will mail approximately 22 million pieces of literature aimed at strengthening MSC's core business and increasing both Web site traffic and general consumer awareness of MSCdirect. The mailings will include 8.75 million brochures to be sent to prospective customers, 13.5 million brochures to existing customers and a four-page insert explaining how to use the Web site for the 500,000 recipients of MSC's Big Book, a catalog that includes supplies for industrial customers.
