*InfoUSA Lays Off 250, Pulls Plug on VideoYellowPages.com

InfoUSA Inc., Omaha, NE, continued its three-month downsizing trend yesterday as it said it would eliminate 250 jobs as well as its entire VideoYellowPages.com subsidiary.

While the company did not state how many of the job cuts were connected to the VideoYellowPages shutdown, most layoffs will be at its headquarters in Omaha — although a total of 50 to 100 people will be let go at operations in New Jersey, New York, California and Canada.

The layoffs include some executive positions, although the firm declined to name which officers would be dismissed.

Before the cutbacks, the company had a work force of 1,985.

InfoUSA, which offers business and consumer information products and database marketing services, also cut 10 jobs in November at its 2-year-old VideoYellowPages subsidiary. At the time of those dismissals, the company did not expect to shut the site down but announced it would reduce its investment in the subsidiary to less than $1 million.

Yesterday's announcement also follows a cutback in October that eliminated 50 jobs.

The company said it still expects sales in fiscal 2001 to reach $327 million, a 6 percent gain over the current fiscal year.
