Hartford Expanding Oklahoma Center

Insurance and investment firm The Hartford Financial Services Group will expand its call center in Oklahoma City, adding 380 jobs over the next 15 months.

The Hartford, which also makes its headquarters in Oklahoma City, plans to add 135 employees to the center by year's end. The facility currently employs 287.

The rest of the planned hires will be in 2003, The Hartford said. New positions include managers, customer services and sales agents and administrative assistants.

The Hartford will enlarge the facility by 33,000 square feet, bringing the center to 100,000 square feet of office space.

According to The Hartford, the company opted to expand in its existing facility in Oklahoma City due to diversity in the area's labor pool and a “positive atmosphere” cultivated by the state's insurance commissioner. The expansion was driven by strong sales to members of seniors organization AARP, to whom The Hartford has been marketing homeowners and automobile insurance since 1984.
