Google+ adds vanity metrics to user profiles

Going where no Facebook has gone before, Google+ is introducing a metric to feed your vanity. Users will now have the option of viewing and displaying the number of times their profile and their posts have been viewed on Google+.

Here’s how you can activate the settings to show the number of views. The catch is that once you activate it, the profile views are available to the public as well. So there’s no way of secretly checking to see how popular you or your posts are.

Basically, this is a way to motivate the A-type personalities in the Google+ world to post stuff that’ll increase their views, especially when they compare themselves to peers.

But considering how bad my activity is on Google+, I think I’m going to check again to make sure the feature’s still disabled for me.
