Federated Department Stores Inc., Cincinnati, reported yesterday that sales for the quarter ended May 4 totaled $3.453 billion, a decline of 2.9 percent from the $3.556 billion posted in the same period last year on both a total and same-store sales basis.
However, net income increased from $58 million in the 13 weeks ended May 5, 2001, to $89 million for the recently concluded quarter.
