DMA Taps Ron Barnes as State Affairs VP

Ron Barnes has joined the Direct Marketing Association as it’s new vice president for state affairs.

Mr. Barnes addition to DMA’s Washington office is part of an ongoing effort by DMA to expand the breadth of its advocacy capabilities. In February, Steven Berry took over the leadership of DMA’s government and consumer affairs efforts.

Mr. Barnes comes to DMA from CTIA – The Wireless Association, where he managed the association’s state regulatory advocacy. Earlier at CTIA he led the implementation of Section 225, the disability access provision of the Telecommunication Act of 1996. He also worked on the association’s industry and consumer education efforts on wireless phone and base station health effects.

Prior to joining CTIA, Barnes served as a legislative affairs specialist with Holland & Knight LLP where his focus was on legislative and regulatory activities in the telecommunications, environment and health care sectors. Mr. Barnes previously served as a staffer for a U.S. Senator from his home state of North Carolina.

DMA President & CEO John A. Greco Jr. said in a statement that decisions in state legislatures are increasingly important to the direct marketing community.
