Direct Brands fills CMO and EVP, business development positions

Direct Brands, parent company of the Book-of-the-Month Club, Columbia House and Doubleday Book Club, has appointed two executives, including a CMO. The company named David Gitow CMO and appointed Alan Katz EVP of business development.

Gitow was most recently CMO of Barnes & Noble, a position he held for six years. He served as founder and president of Time Inc. Home Entertainment before joining Barnes & Noble.

Katz’ role is a new one for the company. He previously served as publisher of Vanity Fair and New York magazine.

Last September, Direct Brands named Deborah Fine CEO. The brand is owned by holding company Najafi Companies.

The hires are “important steps in driving the Direct Brands’ business and alliances forward on multiple platforms on- and off-line,” Fine said in a statement.

A Direct Brands representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
