BTB Ad Pages Climb

Advertising pages in business-to-business magazines increased 3.7 percent in November versus the same period in 2003, the trade association American Business Media reported Friday. BTB ad revenue rose 7 percent for the month.

Year-to-date spending was up 3.7 percent, and ad pages climbed 1.2 percent.

The only category posting a decline in ad pages for the month was services, direct response & classified, down 4.1 percent.

The largest November ad pages gain was in the automotive category, rising 10.8 percent. Finance, business & advertising showed a 10.2 percent increase while travel was up 9 percent. Home & building gained 8.2 percent; telecommunications, 5.5 percent; retail, 5 percent; computers, 4.3 percent; manufacturing & electrical equipment, materials & components, 3.5 percent; software, 2.1 percent; and drugs & toiletries, 0.2 percent.

Services, direct response & classified also was down for the month in terms of ad spending, dropping 3.8 percent. Automotive generated a 16.7 percent rise in ad spending. Finance, business & advertising was up 14.5 percent; home & building, 9.4 percent; travel, 8.9 percent; manufacturing, 8.7 percent; telecommunications, 7.9 percent; retail, 7.5 percent; computers, 7.5 percent; drugs & toiletries, 2.6 percent; and software, 2.2 percent.
