AmEx Publishing Names Whitney VP of Online, International

American Express Publishing Corp., publisher of Travel + Leisure and Departures magazines, named Philip Whitney as vice president of online media and international in a measure designed to expand those two lines of businesses.

Whitney previously was general manager of international at the company, handling licensing relationships and joint ventures for Travel + Leisure and Departures magazines. He will report to company chief marketing officer Mark Stanich and chief financial officer Paul Francis.

“By bringing these nontraditional areas together, we will be able to develop these profit centers more strategically and at a more accelerated pace,” CEO Ed Kelly said in a statement from New York.

Whitney joined American Express Publishing two years ago after serving as executive vice president and global marketing officer of Time and Fortune International in London from 2000 to 2003.

American Express Publishing is owned by financial and travel services giant American Express Co. but managed by Time Inc. A publisher of 18 international editions in nine languages, American Express Publishing most recently added Travel + Leisure China and Travel + Leisure Australia to three other editions in the same franchise. Departures magazine is published in every country of Western Europe and in Japan.
