Amazon Top Global Brand, Survey Shows

Amazon.com is on its way to becoming the top global online brand, according to a recent Jupiter MMXI survey. Amazon ranked among the top five sites in eight markets — the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Denmark, France and Japan.

Local brands dominate online shopping sites in the markets surveyed with Amazon No. 1 in Australia, Canada, the UK and the United States. The United States led in Internet shopping.

The survey found that 68.1 percent of all U.S. home Internet users and 74.3 percent of home and work users visited online retail sites during the survey period in November. About 50 percent of online users at home in the UK, Canada and Japan shopped on the Web.

In both Japan and Canada, women spent more time on Web sites than men, though men outnumber women users.

The top five sites visited in the United States were Amazon, americangreetings.com, bizrate.com, mypoints.com and half.com. But Amazon's reach was more than triple that of its nearest competitor, American Greetings.
