Ad Council Breaks New Freedom Ads for July Fourth

The Advertising Council Inc., a New York nonprofit that uses volunteered advertising services for delivering public service messages, yesterday announced the third round of its Campaign for Freedom to coincide with Independence Day.

The new television, radio and print public service announcements encourage Americans to participate in everyday civic activities that express freedom in action. All ads point to the site at www.explorefreedomusa.org for ideas and resources on engaging Americans to promote the cause for freedom.

Graduate students from the Virginia Commonwealth University Ad Center created the ads under the supervision of The Martin Agency, Richmond, VA. The creative strategy was set with help from organizations like the USA Freedom Corps, The Freedom Forum, Viacom’s MTV Networks and the Advertising Research Foundation.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Home Depot Inc. partly funded the ads.

A recent Ad Council tracking study showed less than a fifth of Americans polled say they are doing or considering doing something about the freedoms they enjoy as citizens. The new ads aim to spur those on the sidelines into action.
