Activist Files Suit Against BulkRegister.com for Telemarketing Violation

Consumer activist Robert Braver said yesterday that he has filed a lawsuit against BulkRegister.com, an Internet domain name registrar, alleging that he received pre-recorded telemarketing calls from the company at his residence, which is a violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

The lawsuit, which seeks monetary damages “in excess of $10,000” and an injunction to prevent the company from committing additional violations, was filed in the Oklahoma District Court in Cleveland County.

According to the BulkRegister Web site, BulkRegister is a trade name of Alabanza Inc., Baltimore. Calls to Alabanza were not returned yesterday.

BulkRegister seeks to attract hosting companies, resellers, Web masters and other companies that register a large number of Internet domains by offering discounts, according to the site.

Braver, of Norman, OK, said he also has been “involved in the fight” against e-mail spam and recently began focusing his attention on telemarketing violations and unsolicited faxes. He maintains the www.junkfaxes.com Web site.
