Abacus Starts Japanese Operations

Abacus, a division of DoubleClick Inc., New York, yesterday announced the opening of Abacus Japan KK, a wholly owned subsidiary offering data modeling to Japanese firms.

With the Japanese launch, direct marketers there have access to Prospect Modeling and House File Modeling, two Abacus products designed to improve targeting capabilities.

Hidemaru Sato was named president of Abacus Japan. He has 15 years of business and brand-building experience and has served as president/CEO of AOL Japan, MediaMetrix Japan and Citizen America.

The Abacus Alliance cooperative database in the United States consists of 1,800 retail and catalog companies with 100 million households and more than 3.7 billion consumer transactions. The UK Alliance has 300 companies and 18.5 million households.
