The Wall Street Journal Online yet again expanded distribution for its subscription packages through a new deal signed yesterday with Books-A-Million, a Southeastern and mid-Atlantic bookseller.
More than 100 Books-A-Million stores will start carrying annual and 60-day trial subscription packages for wsj.com, an online news service that boasts over 500,000 paying subscribers.
The deal with the nation’s third-largest bookseller comes two months after similar arrangements with Barnes & Noble Inc. for point-of-purchase exposure at 550 bookstores nationwide and electronics chain Best Buy Co. for display in its stores’ financial software department.
Books-A-Million will display the packages in its business center area that stocks business books and publications and features TVs tuned to popular business channels.
Owned by Dow Jones & Co., wsj.com includes the content of The Wall Street Journal newspaper and its international editions, Barron’s Online and content exclusive to the online service.
A year’s subscription to wsj.com runs for $49, with an extra month at no charge. Consumers can sample a 60-day trial subscription for $4.95. The packages contain a username and password, which allow the user to activate his or her subscription once online at www.wsj.com.
