Worldata, Ziff Davis Offer Free Subscriptions to List Brokers

List brokers are eligible to receive free subscriptions to Ziff Davis publications PC Magazine and Smart Business through an offer on Worldata/WebConnect's Web site, the company said yesterday.

An initial offer went to brokers by e-mail last month, and more than 900 have signed up so far, said Jay Schwedelson, corporate vice president of Worldata/WebConnect, Boca Raton, FL.

“A lot of the brokers aren't that savvy with these publications because they don't read them,” he said. “We're trying to get them to sign up so that they can get more familiar with the files, and we also are trying to build our database. This is a marketing program to boost awareness and to also boost our contacts.”

Worldata manages the PC Magazine and Smart Business lists, which respectively have more than 1 million and 691,000 active subscribers. PC Magazine has a regular subscription rate of $45 per year, while Smart Business is normally $25 annually.

Brokers can sign up for their free subscriptions to these Ziff Davis publications at www.worldata.com/web/special/signup.htm. They also can refer another broker.

Schwedelson estimated that 1,500 list brokers would sign up. He also said that Worldata might add other magazines to this free-subscription program.

Schwedelson was unsure whether Ziff Davis would try to convert these brokers to paid subscribers in the future.
