Web Site Documents Pension Plans on Internet

FreeErisa LLC, a private company that purchases pension records from the federal government, yesterday launched a Web site, www.freeerisa.com, that publishes 1 million pension and healthcare plans.

The Washington-based firm puts online financial and insurance information concerning small businesses, corporations, associations and labor unions. The site gets its data from the U.S. Department of Labor and plays a watchdog role for the Employee Retirement Income Security Act – a federal statute that sets minimum standards for pension and healthcare plans offered by private employers.

An ERISA spokeswoman said the documents at the Web site are 2 to 4 years old because of federal reporting procedures. Cost of the documents was not available from the government at press time.
