Wachovia Picks Tumbleweed for Secure E-mail

Financial services giant Wachovia tapped Tumbleweed Communications Corp.’s e-mail security suite to power its Wachovia message center.

Wachovia, Charlotte, NC, signed up for the service because of e-mail importance in its customer service communications. The deal gives Wachovia  access to e-mail encryption.

The Wachovia message center inspects outbound e-mail messages, encrypts and securely delivers sensitive or confidential messages. Wachovia opted for an implementation approach that can be used universally by any customer or partner with an e-mail account or a Web-browser. It pulls customers to a secure Web site to pick up messages and documents relating to financial services.

Wachovia will use Tumbleweed for its message center platform serving the wholesale banking division, but plans to follow up with all of its other business units.

Other clients of Tumbleweed, Redwood City, CA, include JP Morgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Securities and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
