VolunteerMatch Bolsters Site's Search Options

VolunteerMatch.org has relaunched its Web site, which gives people interested in charity work and organizations that need help a way to find each other online.

Prospective volunteers were always able to search the site by ZIP code, area of interest and distance. However, the new site also offers searches by keyword, city, county, metro area and state. Volunteer categories such as children, teens, seniors and groups were added to identify opportunities open to those types of volunteers.

Changes to the VolunteerMatch home page announced this month include the addition of a listing of the top metropolitan areas where people volunteer as well as a list of the organization's national nonprofit partners. The top three areas in which VolunteerMatch referred people to charitable organizations were New York, Los Angeles and Washington.

VolunteerMatch claims it has made nearly 500,000 connections between volunteers and more than 16,000 nonprofits since its launch in November 1997.
