VH1.com Solos Eric Clapton Release

VH1.com debuted samples of Eric Clapton's album “Reptile” yesterday in an exclusive deal with the pop star's record label, Reprise Records.

A VH1.com spokesman said the effort was designed to boost album sales through the Web site. Interested viewers are asked to click through to a VH1 link to a Web page hosted by music retailer Sonicnet.com.

VH1.com signed a deal with Reprise Records to offer the album. Financial terms between the two New York-based firms were not announced.

The album's online debut represents a growing trend among pop stars to premiere new releases online. Cher, Ricky Martin, Papa Roach and Madonna have debuted albums and videos via the Internet during the past year.
