Etrue, Southborough, MA, announced its biometric log-on system, which allows users to access secure company data on network servers from home.
The service authenticates users for both Web and local network log-on with face and fingerprint verification. The system will add iris and voice authentication capabilities in the coming months, said a spokeswoman for the firm.
According to Etrue, the system ensures security because it does not use duplicable items such as passwords, cards, keys or tokens. Furthermore, the system records the biometric identities of all people who try to use the system. All transactions are logged for reports and future audits.
Etrue offers video cameras and finger readers to customers at no additional charge. In addition, the service scales to any number of users and works on Windows 98, NT and 2000 and with servers running Windows, Unix and Linux. Additional platforms are planned for the future.
Exodus Communications Inc., Santa Clara, CA, hosts the service, while Etrue manages the service for its customers.
Etrue is targeting the service to banks, securities brokers, insurance companies, hospitals and government agencies. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Washington, is the first organization to sign onto the service.
