The U.S. Postal Service said last week that overboard patriotism could clog the military's mail network to service members stationed in Iraq during the holidays.
Individual consumers and groups, seeking to circumvent the postal service's suspension of its program allowing mail delivery to unspecified addresses such as “any service member” or “any soldier,” have been bulk mailing items addressed to specific individuals, the postal service said.
These items have included cards, letters and care packages. Such efforts have created bottlenecks and delayed mail delivery to service members, the USPS said. The postal service urged that holiday-related mail to military personnel overseas be sent early to ensure delivery by the holidays.
