USPS to Cancel Mailing Online Experiment

The U.S. Postal Service will terminate its Mailing Online market test tomorrow because of operational considerations one year after the test began.

The notice of termination was listed in the Federal Register on Oct. 26 and because of the limited scope of the market test, the USPS is not soliciting comment on its termination.

The USPS said in a statement that it has remained committed to Mailing Online and has not abandoned the project despite termination of the market test. Activities related to the USPS’ Internet infrastructure and Mailing Online also are being closely coordinated, although they are still being tested.

Postal management plans to ask the board of governors to authorize the filing of a new request for a Mailing Online experiment, based upon the USPS.com architecture, shortly.
