USPS Posts Parcel Select Early Bird Hours Online

Parcel consolidators can find Parcel Select Destination Delivery Units that have new “early bird” hours online at www.usps.com, the U.S. Postal Service said last week.

The new hours were announced last month. Parcel Select is a service targeted to high-volume shippers who serve residential customers and who receive work-share discounts.

Under the service, parcel consolidators combine numerous mailings into one delivery to local post offices, also called DDUs, for final delivery. The result is that mailers' packages enter the mail stream further than they otherwise would, enabling packages to receive reduced rates.

Early bird hours began Oct. 19 with drop-ship times for Parcel Select DDU products of 5 a.m.-7 a.m. and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the 1,000 largest offices serving 6,000 ZIP codes with limited exceptions.

Customers can view and download the listing at www.usps.com by clicking “Destination Delivery Unit” to download Excel spreadsheets. The postal service's Rapid Information Bulletin Board System also provides a link at www.ribbs.usps.gov. Go to the Mailers News section and click the Oct. 18 link.

The second phase will include another 7,800 offices. A timeframe has not been set for the second phase.
