USPS Board Meets Nov. 16 on Rate Case, Strasser Plans to Retire

The U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors meet in closed session Nov. 16 in Washington, DC, according to an entry in the Federal Register yesterday.

The agenda will include the postal rate recommendation. The Postal Rate Commission approved a 5.4 percent across-the-board postage rate increase with some exceptions on Nov. 1.

The board met Monday to discuss the rate increase, but likely will approve it Nov. 16. The governors also likely will choose a Jan. 16 implementation date, which would be about 60 days after the meeting.

In other news, the postal service confirmed yesterday that Richard J. Strasser Jr., USPS chief financial officer and executive vice president, plans to retire early next year. No date has been set, the agency said, and Strasser will not leave until his successor has been transitioned.
