U.S. Census Makes Detailed Data Available

The Commerce Department's Census Bureau announced this week that its new data access and dissemination Web site, the American FactFinder, is now operational. The first release of American FactFinder (www.factfinder.com) features data from the Census 2000 dress rehearsal, the 1990 census and the 1996 and 1997 American Community Survey. Data from the 1997 Economic Census will be added on a flow basis throughout the year, and 1998 ACS data are scheduled to go online in late summer. Future releases of American FactFinder will feature additional data and system capabilities. The launch of American FactFinder is the latest in a series of steps to improve public access to the Census Bureau's storehouse of statistics.
