David F. Dyer didn't waste time in moving from Lands' End as Tommy Hilfiger Corp. yesterday named him the company's president/CEO effective immediately.
He succeeds Joel Horowitz, who will continue as chairman of the board.
Dyer resigned his position as president/CEO of Lands' End Aug. 1. He also was executive vice president and general manager of Sears' Customer Direct business and The Great Indoors home business.
Dyer also was appointed a director of Tommy Hilfiger. The company said it intends to appoint new independent directors to the board “in the near future.”
He is credited with propelling Lands' End to consecutive record sales and profits in 2001 and 2002. He oversaw its sale to Sears, Roebuck & Co. last year. He also worked at Lands' End from 1989 to 1994, including as vice chairman and director from 1991 to 1994.
Dyer began his career with Burdines, a division of Federated Department Stores, and held several merchandising and marketing posts during his 17 years there.
He later served as president and chief operating officer of Home Shopping Network and was acting president of J. Crew Catalog, as a consultant for Texas Pacific Group, from 1997 to 1998.
Media reports have Tommy Hilfiger posting a quarterly loss in June and forecasting lower revenue during the current year. Also reported was that the company is undergoing its fourth year of falling profit.
