Time Warner Cable launches avatar video campaign

Time Warner Cable (TWC) has launched a new viral video promotion and application called “Fame Star! The Online Biopic You Control.” Developed by Ogilvy New York and powered by avatar provider Oddcast, users can visit myfamestar.com to create their own celebrity news videos.

“For TWC it was important to push the general idea of customizing your own entertainment, be it with HD programming or DVR options,” said Emily Twomey, SVP of sales for Oddcast.

Users can upload their own photos, record their voice and choose from various story arc options like success, scandal or tragedy. A one-minute celebrity expose-type biopic is then created.

“Fame Star brings users’ passion for online self-expression together with the growing popularity of reality shows and celebrity content,” said Adi Sideman, CEO of Oddcast. “The Oddcast technology allows site visitors to create their very own celebrity-style story and also empowers them to help extend the TWC message. Humorous content [is] great for viral distribution.”

Upon completion the videos can be shared with friends through social networks like Digg, Facebook, Del.icio.us and MySpace.

TWC is geo-targeting consumers in New York, the Carolinas, Southern California and Texas through e-mail, social networks and other online properties.
