Teleservices Industry Gets Call for Homeland Security

The teleservices industry can do its part for homeland security by helping to establish an automated telephone alert system in the United States, the American Teleservices Association said last week.

The ATA said it was in contact with U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek, D-FL, a member of the congressional committee on homeland security. Meek has submitted a bill requiring the Homeland Security Department to develop an “emergency telephonic notification system” to alert households and businesses to an impending crisis.

Meek spoke to the association at its annual legislative conference in Washington last March. He then began talks on how teleservices providers could help in the telephone alert effort, the ATA said.
