List industry stalwart Ralph Stevens said last week that he has opened Ralph Stevens & Associates LLC, Boca Raton, FL, a full-service list marketing company. Its services include list management, list brokerage, database development, list enhancement, response modeling and list/direct marketing consulting.
Most recently, Stevens was a senior vice president at MKTG Services, New York, a company that has its foundation in Stevens-Knox & Associates, which he co-founded in 1992. Stevens-Knox was acquired by Marketing Services Group Inc., New York, in January 1999 and changed its name to MKTG Services in April 2002. MKTG is now owned by CBC Innovis.
On the client side, Stevens said he has some presentations out and is talking to some companies about list brokerage and list management.
“This is new, though people have talked to me in the past about doing it — and I decided that I'm at a point where it makes sense,” he told DM News. “I have all this experience and knowledge about what goes on in the marketplace [and] I think I can be a help to not only list owners but also list management companies.”
Stevens said he has not hired any employees yet, but he would likely set up some associates eventually who will work with him as either employees or affiliates.
Stevens' experience as a list professional began in 1972 as co-founder of list firm Woodruff-Stevens. Before that, he held several direct marketing positions including vice president of direct marketing at Funk & Wagnalls, advertising director at Famous Artist Schools International, advertising manager at Prentice Hall and mail-order copywriter at Grey Advertising and Fairfax Advertising.
A former president of the Direct Marketing Club of New York and Silver Apple Award winner, Stevens also was a founder and president of the Mailing List Users and Suppliers Association, which became part of the Direct Marketing Association. He is also a former president of the Direct Mail Writers Club.
