Quebecor World Names Peladeau President/CEO

Quebecor World announced last week that it had named Pierre Karl Peladeau, president/CEO of subsidiary Quebecor Media since 1999, as its new worldwide president and CEO.

Peladeau is the third person to be named CEO of Quebecor World since former chief executive Charles Cavell left the company in February 2003. He replaces Jean Neveu, who has served as interim president and CEO of Quebecor World since March 2003.

Cavell's replacement, Michel Desbiens, departed the position after about a month, citing his wife's illness.

As chief of Quebecor Media, formerly known as Quebecor Inc., Peladeau oversaw the acquisition of Groupe Videotron, the second-largest cable television operator in Canada. Earlier, as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Quebecor Printing in 1999, Peladeau piloted the acquisition of World Color Press, a move that created the Quebecor World conglomerate and made it the world's largest printer at the time. R.R. Donnelley claimed that title last month when it completed its merger with Moore Wallace.
